The Governing Board is responsible for
the managerial and professional direction of the Southwest Missouri
School Counselor Association, within approved guidelines. Members and
officers are given specific responsibilities. The Governing Board
approves the annual budget. Members of the Governing Board are
sometimes asked to represent SMSCA at key conferences or other
meetings, to ensure that the Association's voice is heard.
The Governing Board meets monthly. Business is also conducted in
between meetings, usually by email. Some of the events that the Governing Board
plans are the Fall and Spring Workshops, the Crisis Training Workshop, the
Spring Administrator Appreciation
Luncheon and Professional Recognition Award, and various fund raising activities.
Members also produce the bi-annual SMSCA SHARE newsletter and manage the SMSCA
website.
It can be hard work, but it is also very rewarding. Members find the opportunity to work with
colleagues from different types of school environments stimulating
and energizing. Members ensure that they enjoy themselves at the same time
as striving to advance the cause of school counseling and improve the
practice of the profession.
